Program Structure 2014
International Summer School Program 2014
This short-term exchange features two exciting transatlantic encounters:
Myrtle Beach meets Remagen
14 students of Coastal Carolina University accompanied by Associate Prof. Dr. Richard Martin, Assistant Professor Dr. Monica Fine and Dr. Stephen Firsing III visited the Rhineland in May. Through joint activities with the visiting CCU students, students of RheinAhrCampus and Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg they had excellent opportunities of finding out about academic life and social activities offered at CCU; through joint coursework they were able to familiarise themselves with the appropriate language for academic discussions and projects. The focus of this year's teaching modules was on practical exercises in E-Business and Logistics. Students had the chance to explore some important aspects of logistics and e-business by getting an introduction to the topic and by visiting our Laboratory for Logistics and e-Business. After a short presentation, the students performed some experiments in small groups involving German and American students. They also visited DHL in Bonn where they received a tour of the Post Tower and an introduction to the structures of the company as well as some information about transatlantic connections, logistical issues and solutions.
In addition to academic coursework, social activities ranging from sports events to a barbecue on the banks of the river Rhine, helped to foster strong relationships.
Remagen meets Myrtle Beach
The German participants of this year's summer school program were actively involved in preparing many of the activities offered during the first part of the summer school program. After the initial pre-departure meetings, contacts with CCU students were arranged through video conferences, email communications and chat sessions. Through a buddy assignment, students took an active part in integrating the CCU students on campus and welcoming them to RheinAhrCampus and Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University. Thus, it was great to meet many of the students again during the International Summer School at CCU in Fall. CCU students offered lots of social activities around the scheduled program - thus providing the participants with a great chance to share parts of their campus life.
