Exchange semester as a great moment
Tsotne from Georgia, Winter Semester 2020/2021
Ich bin Tsotne Kalichava aus Georgia. I am 20 years old and I am doing my master at Business and Technologies University in Tbilisi. Everything started in 11th of May, when I received email from Sprachen Internationales and real story began in September, when my plane arrived in Germany.
On my way I was thinking how this semester would be, would it be as I expected or would it be more. Additionally, travelling with face mask because of corona virus was not so good, so I worried about this exchange semester. But, trust me even with face mask and “bitte abstand” (keep a distance) WiSe 2020 was unforgettable. There was orientation week, interns meeting and then adventure has begun.
I am going to highlight the most memorable moments from my semester. First was course named intercultural communication, just image more than 20 students from different countries and with different cultural background discussing about tons of interesting topics. German course was real challenge, but we took this challenge and learnt a lot. In November we had MCD seminars, participants from more than 20 countries, that was an experience gate for me.
In my past life I was handballer and was playing in local team in Georgia. One day I was scrolling Facebook and found post where Remagen Handball Team was looking for new players. I just took this opportunity and started playing there. Unfortunately, I played only one month and then because of Corona Virus everything has stopped working. I did not know German language to communicate with my team members but we managed and had great time together.
Then, first task arrived as an intern at RAC. New and new tasks with different topic taught me how to be critical and objective, how to deal with many different problems. During the internship I discovered my skills in Video Production and started working on this field. With my amazing team I made several video products. Before my semester in Remgen, I was a punctual person but right now I understand why I should be always on time. Brainstorming in the international team is always amazing, hundreds of different views, thousands of different ideas, makes you more worldwide person.
Overall, I have learned a lot about German culture, improved my language skills and feel more confident in my future career. Being international is really addictive if you start you will have to carry on for your whole life. Studying in RheinAhrCampus gave me the opportunity to experience and get in contact with other students from different countries. The most challenging for me was working for the international office and studying at the same time. I have learned to multitask and I feel more organized now.
Vielen Dank für diese Gelegenheit. Bis bald.
