Exploring the unknown
Vitor from Brazil, Winter Semester 2019/2020
Hallo Zusammen! My name is Vitor and I am from the Federal University of Campina Grande – Brazil. I spent one year as an exchange student at RheinAhrCampus in Remagen. This experience helped me to develop several skills such as taking initiative, communicating with people, improving English and etc. The whole process of staying one year abroad was constructive in many different ways, because here I had the opportunity to attend classes with teachers from Canada, Australia, USA, Azerbaijan, Germany. I also had contact with professors from India, Spain, Denmark, Singapore, Georgia and many more during events such as Managing Culture Diversity in Winter semester and International Week in summer semester. All of this makes me to learn new things from different points of view and experience different teaching methods that I had to adapt myself to. I also spent one year working in an internship (offered by the university) at the Sprachen/Internationales department, which was very important for the learning process, because there I have done several projects like podcast, edditing pictures, organizing events, being a course assistant and way more. All those things helped me to grow, pushed me to develop skills as working under pressure. It got me familiar with punctuality and being strict with deadlines, sending e-mails in a professional way and etc. So I can say that in the internship I was able to become a better person and a better professional, now I am more prepared for what the real business work environment can be like. This year of experience gave me the opportunity to make many friends from different cultures and backgrounds, to live in an intercultural enviroment. I also expanded my horizons and understood how differently cultures work, why they do things differently than I do in my country. Besides friends, I was also able to visit a lot of different countries like, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, France, and of course, to get close to the cultures by trying typical foods, drinks and also observing the way that people act in those places. I can definitely say that one year that I had spent as an exchange student at the Hochschule Koblenz RheinAhrCampus university changed my life in many positive ways, I am completely different person than before, and I´ll never forget those amazing moments that I had experienced while living in Remagen and exploring the cities around me such as Bonn, Koblenz and Cologne. I can say that it was the best year of my life and I am very inspired to go back to this country in the future. I am very happy that I was able to have that kind of experience twice. I recommend this program to everyone who is thinking about going abroad.
