My International Experience at RheinAhrCampus
Evelyn from Canada, Summer Semester 2018
Hi everyone,
My name is Evelyn Trinh, and I am originally from Vietnam. I am currently in my final year at Brock University in Canada and on my 5-month exchange at RheinAhrCampus in Remagen. Undertaking an exchange semester at RAC was an experience I believe I will never be able to replicate. Not only was I able to break up the intense nature of my degree by moving away to study courses that I had substantial interest in, but I also got the opportunity to come out of my comfort zone and immerse myself in a different culture for the time being. Spending time with other international students and local students allows me to immerse myself into different cultures and lifestyles which I could learn from and at the same time, gain invaluable experiences and friends for life. In this, not only have I now gained friends from all over the world, but I have also learned so much more about those countries and their way of life which has helped me to be more open-minded. Studying abroad has allowed me to know exactly what I want to do and start working on what I am planning. As a bonus, the teaching styles were so different in Germany so I had excess time to travel to places that I would never have thought I had the time or resources to explore. During my semester here, I was lucky enough to be able to travel through different parts of Germany and managed to spend my break at some other European countries.
RAC has become a prominent destination for me to study as it offers excellent teaching, research and a variety of practice-oriented options as well as the experience I have gained will be internationally recognized by global companies. There are a lot of courses/programs taught in English so it does not mean that you have to study in German if you go to Germany, but I encourage people to take up a primary German course if you want to make the most out of your stay as it is one of the most influential and powerful languages in the world. It is also an excellent opportunity to learn a new language as you can practice efficiently every day.
I was able to conquer all my fears here and feel genuinely unstoppable in my dreams now. Overall, I love my time in Germany – and I highly recommend to take this chance to study/work at RAC to shape you as a person and in your career.
