My journey of growth and cultural immersion as an international student
Mohammad from Jordan, Summer Semester 2023
My name is Mohammad Alkharabsheh from Jordan. I came to Remagen for my first semester as a part of my German Year program in my home university.
Its not easy to live a six month far away from My home, family and my friends, But Remagen and RehinAhr campus helps you to overcomes with this situation.
Building a new life in a new country away from my family and friends and getting used to this new lifestyle was challenging but it got easier day by day. People in Remagen are friendly and super helpful I somehow felt like I’m home although I’m thousands of miles away from what I call my home.
One of the most significant aspects of studying at RheinAhr campus is the opportunity to immerse oneself in a different culture. Students can experience new traditions, customs, languages, and perspectives, gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of different cultures. Also Studying abroad involves me in stepping out of one's comfort zone and navigating unfamiliar situations independently. This experience fosters personal growth, self-confidence, adaptability, and resilience. For me Living and studying in Remagen provides an ideal environment for improve my language learning in English and German. Students can enhance their language proficiency by engaging with locals, attending language courses, and using the language in everyday situations. It is an excellent opportunity to build a global network of friends, colleagues, and mentors from diverse backgrounds like friend from from, Bhutan, Turkey, Albania, and Germany. . These connections can be valuable for future collaborations, career opportunities, and intercultural understanding. And that’s creates lasting memories and friendships. One of amazing event that’s I practiced on it was the international dinner, it more than a dinner where we shared information about Ramadan with a student from different faiths what fasting and breaking the fast mean. Also, it was amazing to try food from countries because it represents the cultural past of the people.
We have participated in many university excursion to Cologne, Bonn, and Koblenz that was unforgettable experience.
Overall, my exchange experience was an incredibly enriching and life-changing experience. It helped me to develop independence, adaptability, and an open mind. It also helped me to improve my language skills, gain a deeper understanding of different cultures and customs, to develop a global perspective and most importantly make friends from different corners of the world. For anyone who is thinking about it, I would highly suggest studying abroad.
