You can't stop the clock unfortunately
Zydrune from Lithuania, Winter Semester 2012/2013
I cannot believe how fast time runs in Remagen. It is seems that I have just arrived in Germany and now it’s time to go home. I spent an incredible, unforgettable semester. Moreover if you are still thinking to take this opportunity to spend one semester abroad or not, don’t think about it, just do it. There is only one time in your life when you have such a good opportunity to spend 1 or 2 semester in another country, to get in touch with people from over the world, and to feel the ERASMUS spirit.
One year ago I had to decide whether to go aborad as an ERASMUS student or not, and I am absolutely sure that I made the right decision and that I chose the best place (RheinAhrCampus) for my ERASMUS semester. I have never regretted my decision and here are the reasons why.
First of all, I had an opportunity to study and to do an internship at the same time and it is incredible how much I have done. When I came to Germany, my English was really poor and my German even worse, but I survived and I improved my language skills so much. At first, it was hard to speak in English, but now I am proud of myself how much I have improved my English in just one semester. Moreover I improved my German skills too, maybe not so much, but I am happy that I had this opportunity to increase my knowledge in both languages.
The second reason is new friends. Before I came to Germany most of my friends were Lithuanians, but now I have friends from all over the world, from Australia, Jordan, Netherlands, Spain, South Korea, Japan, France and of course Germany. I met incredible people and I learnt about other cultures a lot. I enjoyed communicating with others and spending my time with them, and I know that most of these people will be my friends for ever and I will keep in touch with them.
The third reason is the studies. It is wonderful that you can do all your courses in English, because if you want to go as an ERASMUS student in Germany, most of the universities offer courses just in the German language, and for me, who knows just basic German, to study in this language would be incredibly hard and impossible. So I took all courses in English and they are really very good and I have learnt a lot. I really enjoyed my studies in RheinAhrCampus. Here most of the courses such as Intercultural Communication, International Business Simulation, Managing Cultural Diversity, International Logistics Management and others were more practical rather than theoretical and I know that I could use the knowledge gained from these classes in my future life.
Therefore, I will remember this semester as one of the most incredible and wonderful semesters in my life. I got more than I expected from my ERASMUS semester. Moreover, I would like to thank everybody, coordinators, lecturers and of course all international students, who made this semester so wonderful.
