Helen Schneider at Tbilisi University
Helen Schneider has just come back from a two-week stay at the Tbilisi State University Georgia in March - and the impressions she brought back are extremely positive.
Tbilisi State University is located in Tbilisi - about twenty minutes drive from airport.
Helen Schneider taught a class of a higher level - and she experienced a very high level of interest in that class.
The focus of her teaching units was on the “Social politics” and the differences between Germany and Georgia. The students were very interested in the social differences between the two countries and were very keen on understanding and discussing the political issues behind the structures which were introduced in class. The lecturers at Tbilisi were also very friendly, cooperative and supportive before and during Helen Schneider's stay in Georgia.
The students in the class were very fluent in English. This made it easy to get everybody involved. The students were very creative to do their groupwork and their presentations. There was no flipchart, no pencils or other material. But the students did a good job to write their topics down on small sheets of paper and to present their topics without any material support.
When you come to Georgia, you can be sure of a very warm welcome. Only outside the University in the city it’s a little bit difficult to understand the Georgian language and ideographs. But many people in the country can talk in English and are happy to help you. It is a great experience to teach in another country at another university in another language, Helen Schneider said: "It broadens your linguistic and personal horizons immensely!"
