Felix in Split, Croatia
Study abroad at ASPIRA University College of Management and Design
Dobar dan!
Since the end of September I am in Split, the second largest city in Croatia right on the Adriatic. Temperatures over 25 degrees in October made first weeks seem like vacation. This is partly because of the university itself, ASPIRA even feels ten times smaller than the RAC. During the week I don´t need to attend lots of classes but in return I get tasks and assignments which I must do at home. On the other hand, it is simply because of the Croatian way of living. Priority always is a relaxed coffee, nobody starts to be productive without. Regarding to the stereotype of German punctuality, I was taught not to care too much about time schedules.
After Coffee Croatians are very open-minded, helpful and, if their English makes possible, mostly opened for a short conversation. In general, you can deal with everything in English, which is, however, urgently necessary regarding to my "progress" in Croatian language course.
During the nights you can choose between many bars, clubs, Croatian Balkans music, international music etc. Another very popular option is, as long as the weather permits, just hanging out on certain public spaces. Especially in the beginning this was a very good chance to meet new people, whether Croatian or internationals.
Apart from that, Split/Croatia has a beautiful nature, important historical sights and it´s a good starting point to discover Balkans area or Game of Thrones locations.
Overall, Split may not be the biggest city, but it hasn´t been boring so far.
