Study abroad at Trent University in Peterborough

Phil, Jenni and Rosanna studied abroad for one semester at Trent University in Peterborough, Canada.

Luckily, we didn't have to go into quarantine upon entry and had the opportunity to go to Toronto on the first day. Toronto was a whole new experience. The city looks impressive at first sight due to the 280m high skyscrapers, especially at night. However, in the big city we discovered the "distillery district" where you can escape the big city and feel like you're in a small town.

Unfortunately, due to Corona, we had online lectures for the whole of January and were in lockdown. However, we were able to use this for ourselves and make smaller trips. For example, we were in Algonquin National Park, where we went on a hike at -20 degrees and the day after we looked at Niagara Falls.

Study at Trent is like living in Hogwarts (from the Harry Potter Movies). Your college affiliation is chosen by your Major. We’re studying Business Administration and are a part of the wonderful Gzowski College. Each college hosts different events during the Semester. As a student you can visit all of them for free.

The events are perfect for meeting new friends and experiencing the Canadian culture (e.g. axe throwing, tobogganing) The nice campus is 20min away from downtown Peterborough, directly located at Otonabee River. Meanwhile, our first exams are done so we used the last week to fly to Alberta and discover Calgary and the Banff National Park. For everyone who plan to go to Canada, this is a must do experience.

The mountains, canyons and the lakes are phenomenal and one of their kind. We explored the National Park by car and foot. The scenery behind the streets and on the trails is incredible. Luckily, we were able to see the northern lights. Calgary is like a small version of Toronto and absolutely worth a trip.
In the next few weeks, we will explore Canada and the USA more closely and hope to be able to escape the cold.
