Health Disparities and Health Communication
Amy Edmunds M.A. from Coastal Carolina University joined our Faculty of Business and Social Sciences as a visiting lecturer for the second teaching term of the Summer Semester 2018. Amy Edmunds serves as Senior Lecturer of Health Sciences at Coastal Carolina University. Her courses are taught within the Public Health major.
Her research focus enhances understanding of young adults who experience stroke. Her graduate studies resulted in the establishment of a patient advocacy organization to benefit stroke survivors and their caregivers in 2005.
For the past four years, Ms. Edmunds has globally championed stroke support organizations as a board member of the World Stroke Organization. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) awarded her recognition in 2016 for coordinating the first international scientific conference exclusively addressing young stroke. Additionally, she earned NIH recognition for her work related to Health Disparities in 2014.
Ms. Edmunds first visited RAC during International Week last spring.
The classes she taught covered aspects of international health communication which tied in quite nicely with the curriculum of our programs in Health Care and Social Services Management:

Amy Edmunds's visit to our university was embedded into the exchange activities in the framework of the in the context of ERASMUS+ mobility with partner countries (Key Action KA 107).
In addition to the classes she taught during her stay, she offered information sessions on study abroad opportunities at Coastal Carolina University during our International Week and interacted with the participants of our Summer School Program. She also used her stay in the Rhineland to establish contacts to hospitals and care facilities in order to explore the areas of stroke care and rehabilitation. We would like to thank Maria Hilf Hospital in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler and Neurological Rehabilitation Centre Godeshöhe in Bonn for welcoming Ms. Edmunds, sharing their expertise and providing detailed insights and perspectives on stroke care and rehabilitation in Germany!
