International Networking / Academic Exchange: Natalia Obikhod

Hey Sustainable Souls! I'm Natalia Obikhod, and I'm thrilled to share my transformative experience during the Erasmus Training Mobility at the University of León in Spain as part of the Blended Intensive Program (BIP) in the field of Sustainability: "Observing and learning from the past to protect our future: Water."

As a passionate advocate for Sustainability, the lecturer of “Sustainable Development” and the leader of "GreenErasmus-RheinAhrCampus" at RheinAhrCampus, I embarked on this journey to dive deep into Water Management and broaden my horizons. Throughout the program, I embraced innovative teaching methods, strengthened ties with our Spanish partners in León, and co-led the group project "Self-Sufficient House: Off-Grid Water System." Last but not least, I also took the opportunity to promote Erasmus Green Travel. During the training mobility, I chose only eco-friendly means of transportation – buses and trains, decreasing the carbon footprint of my mobility by 500%!

What sets this program apart is its inclusive nature – students and staff members come together to explore Sustainable Water Management. I had the privilege of wearing two hats, experiencing the program both as a student and a Research Associate. Now I know for sure, that the University of León is the right place for a semester abroad for students and Erasmus Mobility for staff members.

The BIP combined with a compulsory virtual phase and physical activity. During the virtual phase, all participants attended online lectures conducted by French, German, and Spanish lecturers on theoretical aspects of Water Management from the perspectives of history (heritage), physics, and sustainability. The face-to-face agenda of the program led us to several local excursions to hydro-power stations, water cleaning stations, Roman museums, dams, and mesmerizing Las Medulas, which allowed us to learn from the greatest Spanish professionals.

Gratitude to the amazing MARÍA FERNÁNDEZ RAGA and all the dedicated lecturers and students who made this experience invaluable.’

Exciting news: The BIP is happening again in June! Keep your eyes peeled for the application call – this is an opportunity you don't want to miss! Let's continue to learn, grow, and embrace sustainability together!
